Hey Guys! Welcome back to our blog. You know how we are. We love to get to the point because that's what we want when we are researching to travel somewhere. It saves so much time. So here we go.
Taking the Bus:
There are a 5 different tickets and pricing you can purchase depending on how many days you will spend in Rome and how much you will use public transportation.
TIP: If you purchase a metro ticket you can use that tickets for the Bus for 100minutes. The buses NEVER check so sometimes people take advantage of this and hop on the bus free without a ticket from metro but let's be honest people.
Bus Times:
The bus runs everyday from 5:30 a.m. till midnight.
The 5 Different Bus Tickets:
1. B.I.T Standard Ticket: It costs €1.50 and it is valid for 1 Metro Ride or 100 minutes on all buses allowing transfers
2. Standard Ticket: It costs €7.00 and it is valid for unlimited Metro, Bus, and Train Travel within Rome for 24 hours from validation.
3. 48-Hour Ticket: It costs €12.50 and it is valid for unlimited Metro, Bus, and Train Travel within Rome for 48 hours.
4. 72-Hour Ticket: It costs €18.00 and it is valid for unlimited metro, bus, and train travel within Rome for 72 hours from validation
5. C.I.S Ticket: It costs €24.00 and is valid for 7 calendar days.

How to Pay for the Bus/Metro Ticket:
Tickets for the bus/metro can be purchased from tobacconists, vending machines at metro stations/major bus stops, and bars.
They also have contactless payments like in London's City Center so instead of a ticket you use your card/device to tap in/out like. If you're thinking well how am I supposed to show someone I paid. You just show your card or app to prove you have paid. So don't worry.
TIP: You CAN'T use your Rome's public transport tickets for the bus going to/from the airport. Those buses are fairly cheap. (SEE BELOW FOR HOW TO GET TO/FROM AIRPORT)
Metro Stations:
The metro has 3 lines when traveling across the city: A (Orange), B (Blue), and C (Green). During peak hours trains arrive almost every 2-3 minutes but you can wait up to 10minutes at off peak times.
NEED TO KNOW: Sunday-Thursday the Metro is open from 5:30 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. but Friday and Saturday it runs until 1:30 a.m.
Driving A Car:
Having a car is definitely convenient when traveling around Italy but when you are in the center of Rome public transportation is the best way to get around with a lot less frustration. It will save you a lot of money too. There are 2 major transportation methods: Bus or Metro if you want to save money and have an easy way to get around.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW: If you rent a car and it is diesel make sure they fill you up with Adblue. We had no idea what this was and the light came on. Thankfully we had Google because we didn't know what it meant. The gas stations sell it. Thankfully my broken Italian and a really nice gentlemen spoke to the gas attendant and he knew exactly what we needed. Also, the car company didn't give us windshield wiper fluid. It was practically empty so we bought that too. KEEP YOU RECEIPTS because when we returned the car we showed them and they filed a refund. It takes time but you will get your money back.

Airport Transportation:
1. Taxi rides to/from Rome’s airports are fixed at $50.65 for Fiumicino Airport and $31.65 for Ciampino Airport.
2. You can take the non-stop train from FCO to Termini Station in about 30 minutes for around $15. There you can connect to the metro.
TIP: Children under 4 travel for FREE and if you have children under 12 they can travel for FREE with every paying adult. The train runs from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m. We recommend pre booking online. You can get one at the airport but it would be more convenient and less stress if you pre book online.
3. Airport Bus is something we don't recommend. There are many companies with different timings, fares, and frequencies. You could be waiting up to an hour depending on the traffic. The cost could be as low as $5.
4. Private Transportation: If you are traveling as a family or big group this might be a cheaper option for you. Some companies charge per adult, about $37, or per group, about $94. The nice thing about this if you pre-book is that it is convenient and they are waiting for you out front.
TIP: If it is your first time going to Rome in a group we would recommend using a private transportation or getting a Hotel that provides airport transportation for FREE. If you use Booking.com for your hotels a lot of times they will include free/discounted airport transfers depending on your status. (SEE TAXI/UBER TRANSPORTATION BELOW). If you have children then the train would be the MOST COST EFFECTIVE since kids are FREE.
Taxi/Uber Transportation:
First lets answer the question Is Uber Available in Rome? The answer is YES! However, only Uber Black, Lux, or Van due to taxi drivers fighting this and these options can be fairly expensive.
IMPORTANT TAXI INFORMATION: You have read other articles I'm sure that have mentioned being taken advantage of with taxi drivers. We have family over in Italy and what you read is true unfortunately. The BEST way to avoid this is to look for licensed taxi's. Look for one's with a TAXI roof sign, meters and the symbol of the City Council of Rome clearly visible on their front doors. When we took a taxi we always asked for a receipt as well.
We hope this helps make you travels easier when visiting Rome! Have a great time.
